Achievements (Reporting Period: 01 April 2006 30 June 2006)

During the reporting period, work continued along two parallel avenues related firstly to the development of training modules for grades 11 and 12 in 17 job families and 64 occupational profiles, being the task of the project, and secondly, to curriculum and training module development for the remaining job families and profiles, being the task of the Ministry.

The curriculum development work is conducted in line with ISCED 97 education classification system. In the previous progress report, it was stated that VET will be provided in 38 job families and 205 occupational profiles. During the continued development work, further adjustments were made and the future VET will comprise 42 job families and 194 occupational profiles.

During the second quarter of 2006, training modules for grades 11 and 12 within the original 17 job families and 64 profiles were completed by the module writers. Currently, academicians are carrying out quality control of these modules and making the required amendments. The number of modules to be reviewed is 1,323. The quality control and revision is expected to be completed by the end of July, 2006.

Simultaneously, an international service procurement notice related to the printing of the above modules was published with a deadline for interested applicants of July 10, 2006 ..

The curriculum development for the extended job families was completed and the curricula were submitted to the Board of Education for their approval. Such an approval was received in their letter no. 269, dated June 2, 2006 .

Upon the approval of the curricula, the work on modularization of the curricula and the contents of the related training modules commenced with the grade 10 modules. 150 person/days of sectoral expertise were provided by the project to support the curriculum developers in this task. The work was initiated in the last week of June and is scheduled to be completed at the end of July for grade 10 through 12.

Writing of grade 10 modules started as soon as the curricula were approved by the Board of Education and completion of the modularization of the related curricula. It is expected that the modules will be digitally submitted to the VET Directorates General by the end of July, 2006.

Work Plan for the next reporting period

The training modules for grades 11 and 12 within the original 17 job families will be completed at the end of July, 2006. Once the tendering process for their printing is completed by end of August, the modules will be printed and distributed to all VET pilot institutions.

The following activities related to curricula and training modules for the extended job families will be completed during the coming period:

•  The modularization of the curricula will be completed by the end of July, 2006.
•  The training modules for grade 10 will be digitally submitted to the DGs by the end of July, 2006.
•  The curricula for certificate programs at levels 2, 3 and 4 will also be finalized by the end of July, 2006.

The 9 th grade orientation program implemented during the school year 2005-2006 included 50 job families. Since the Ministry now have decided that its VET program will be grouped under 42 job families only, the related training module will be adapted accordingly before the end of July, 2006.

The development work related to 11 th and 12 th grade training modules for extended job families will continue throughout the next reporting period.
